Salamanca Place Hobart
Several Projects from development in 1986-7 to fixed layout in 1991
The Peacock is a small theatre. It was developed in a semi-open area of Jam Factory in these 1830's sandstone warehouses. The back of its stage area maintains the original quarry rock face. (The centre sits back into an early quarry.) It has varied in size from 100 to 150 seats Its original form maintained a flexible seating arrangement. It is equipped and accompanied by service and amenities spaces and a foyer cafe. Along with Hobart's Theatre Royal (the oldest theatre in Australia,) the Peacock has enhanced enormously the opportunity available particularly to young performers, writers and directors but also in a wide range of arts from puppetry to music.
